‘Museums in journals’: the origins and disputes over the National Archives Museum

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to show some aspects of the path of the National Archives Museum and its collections. As these are collections that had been incorporated into the collection of another museum, we have pursued their “evidence and signs” in references that, for other reasons, quoted the Museum, in institutional documents, and in three Brazilian journals: Publicações do Arquivo Nacional, Revista do Instituto Histórico e Geográfico Brasileiro e Anais do Museu Histórico Nacional. Through these publications, we identified a museum whose trajectory is linked to the Brazilian Empire and to disputes for its resignifications in the first decades of the 20th century.
