Abstract

Museums had employed communication and information technologies to promote their communication with their audiences. One of widely used resources had been offering extra digital content accessed via QRCodes. Despite several international and national initiatives, few studies report evaluations of the use of these resources in museums. This work reports the experience of using QRCodes in the exhibition “Icnology: life passed through here” at Câmara Cascudo Museum, in the city of Natal, RN. First, we describe the exhibition room organization, the exposed objects which received extra digital content, the development of these content and their forms of access within the museum. Then, we present a quantitative descriptive evaluation of the use of QRCodes in this exhibition during three months from its opening. We compare the total amount of visitors with the amount of those who consulted QRCodes. We also analyzed the average number of consulted QRCodes by visitor and the average duration of this consultation. Only 2,23% of visitors consulted QRCodes at the exhibition, consulting less than two QRCodes (13,3% of those available) during 3:35 min on average. Lastly, we discuss possible causes of these results and possible future works.
