Provincial museums: contributions to Brazilian museology

Abstract

The article privileges information about local provincial museums from archive sources, bibliographical material and collections formed throughout the 19th Century that still haven´t caught the attention of national Historiography. The article also questions the idea identified in international literature as ‘lost museums’, as well as the idea of provincial museums to affirm the existence of a Brazilian museological past that has yet to be effectively incorporated in Brazilian museological studies.
